Blocks are items which may be added to the dashboard for quick overview and understanding.
You can click the profile and toggle on the dashboard customization, so that the blocks can be added or removed as required. Any block can be selected and updated, so that it appears in dashboard.
You can access blocks even from the site administration page under Manage Blocks
